This is with visual studio 2019.
All of the sudden a project won't link. Compiling goes ok, but then linking never ends until I break it. The output window shows that the first obj file is being linked over and over. I rebooted and this didn't help. What happened?

Like the Schrödinger cat, all code is error free as long as it is still in the shrink wrap box. It is only when you open the box that you can expect to observe that the code is with error or not with error.
(This will only mean something to those living in the latitudes that observing freezing water)
My usual analogy is that running a program is often like walking on thin ice.

Try reading Alonzo Church's book then you will see brilliance, but there is no ice merely walking on mathematical water.
I studied at ANU - math - I know some people of that calibre - they cannot drive a rusty nail.
