ifort hangs under user, works under root

Hello,

a recent install of ifort 12.1 (composer_xe_2011_sp1.8.273) under ubuntu 10.10 32bit completed fine. ifort works ok under root (sudo), but hangs w/o response/error msg under user.
I've checked the permissions of all execs, links, paths. They all seem ok. Writing to /tmp by user is ok.

I assume it is a permissions problem. Anything I should look at? Any suggestion how to find out what is missing permissions?
