Intel sent me last Saturday (17/06) an Email telling me that "Intel Visual Fortran Compiler for Windows*, version 8.1.042 is available to download and thatthis package is appropriate for new and existing users of the Intel Visual Fortran Compiler 8.1 for Windows*, Standard Edition, and as an update for existing users of the 8.1 Professional Edition."
I bought last month Intel Visual Fortran Compiler For Windows standard Edition Version 9.
Do I have to download the proposed exe file or is it a mistake ?
Thank you for your answer,
Best regards,
fred

If you are happy with ifort 9.x, you should ignore the notice of an 8.1 update. You might be interested in a 9.1 update.

This problem confuses a lot of users - I am hoping that some changes we are making to how you get downloads will reduce the confusion.
Intel generally supports two versions of the compiler at a time. While 9.1 is the current version, we're also still applying targeted fixes to the 8.1 stream for customers who, for whatever reason, cannot move to 9.1. 9.0 is not updated as 9.1 replaces it.
Unfortunately, when we have one big list of updates, sorted by date, you get the situation where an 8.1 release looks "newer" than the latest 9.1 release. The answer for now is to look at version numbers, NOT release dates.
