I keep getting stuck on "rc.exe" build errors in trying to move to VS9 and IVF11.
What IVF11 install package should I be using with a new Visual Studio 2008 installation?
Is rc.exe an IVF or VS thing?

rc.exe is supplied by Visual Studio. It should be in the Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0VCBin folder.

So what do I do if it isn't there? I have been reinstalling VS9, .Net Framework, Service pack etc.
I do find an RC.Exe in Microsoft SDKsWindowsv6.0ABin , can the compiler use that one?
Is it usual to have to set WindowsSdkDir environment variable manually?

My error - for VS2008, it uses the rc.exe in the SDK folder that you found. This should be used automatically. Go to Tools > Options > Intel Fortran > Compilers. Click on the ... to the right of Executables. Make sure that the line:
$(WindowsSdkDir)bin
is included.

Also, if you have installed the Windows 7 Beta SDK, it corrupts the registry entry that VS2008 uses. Doing a repair on VS2008 will fix that.

I went and checked.
I went to Tools > Options > Intel Fortran > Compilers. I Clicked on the ... to the right of Executables.
I made sure that the line: $(WindowsSdkDir)bin
was included. It was already there.
Additionally:
I went ahead and purchased a $139student lic of Visual Fortran. I am downloading the software right now.
Now that I have started the download I am wondering whether that was a good move. I already had the free30 day trial version installed. It remains installed. Inever uninstalled. I had been programming in it successfully although itwould not compile because itcould not find rc.exe. Am I messing things up worse by installing my fortranstudent version download anyway.Maybe I should have just replaced the license and left everything else alone. The missing rc.exe problem is NOT a fortran problem. This is a Visual Studio problem.
What do you think ??

I have a similar problem: Can't compile. No RC.exe
I checked also in Microsoft SDKsWindowsv6.0ABin
No RC.exe there either. In fact this folder is completely empty.
Please advise. My e-mail Leahy.5@wright.edu

Additional Issue:
Besides not having the rc.exe
I am also concerned about:
I initially downloaded and have been using the Free 30 trial version of Visual Fortran. It has been working well except for the previously stated issue about not being able to compile because there is no rc.exe.
I purchased the $139student version of Visual Fortran.
The sales rep at Custom Solutions told me that in my situation I would likelyonly need to replace 30 day trial license file with a student version license.
How do I do that licensereplacement ?
I actually began the process of starting to install the student software without unistalling the trial software. I now believe that this was a mistake. The installation aborted anyway. My thinking, although incorrect, was that if I install the student software, I either would have the rc.exe with the student software OR I would not need the rc.exe. I tried to use the fortran again afterward the aborted student software installation attemptand found that I was still able to do so. (Of course I still can't compile without the rc.exe)
