I'm having issues updating the Management Engine Interface drivers from 1914.12.0.1256 to 1923.12.0.1278. I have a brand new NUC9i9QNX.
I have tried using the Intel Drive & Support Assistant, and installing the drivers manually. I've tried removing the software from Control Panel and uninstalling the current drivers in Device Manager, but no matter what I do, I end up back with the drivers at 1914.12.0.1256, with a prompt to update in the IDSA. Weirdly, the software version does show as 1923.12.0.1278 in Control Panel.
How can I get this to work? Is there an INF file for the drivers that I can force the Device Manager to use using "Have Disk", maybe?
Thanks in advance!

Hello MattLodder,
ME driver when running version 1923.12.0.1278 but in device manager still reports version 1914.12.0.1256 - I just confirmed that this is the expected behavior.

Thanks! I did already have that BIOS installed. The issue with the Management Engine drivers persists.
Thanks!

Hello MattLodder,
Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.
In order to better assist you, please provide the following:
1. Run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) and attach the report generated:
- Open the application, check the "Everything" box, and click on "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel® SSU will take you to the "Summary View".
- Click on the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
- To save your scan, click on "Next", then "Save".
- Use the paperclip icon to attach the report to the thread. Please note that only one file can be attached at a time.
2. Under Device Manager > System Devices > Intel® Management Engine Interface. Do you see any yellow bang? If yes, please provide the error code in a screenshot if possible.
3. Do you get any error code while trying to install the driver with the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (Intel® DSA) or manual installation? Please provide a screenshot if possible.
4. What is the driver version for the Intel® Management Engine Interface shown in the Device Manager? Please provide a screenshot if possible.
Regards,
Sebastian M.
Intel Customer Support Technician.

Thanks, Sebastian! It seems I'm not the only one with this issues - another user encountered it at https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-NUCs/NUC9i9QNX-and-Intel-Driver-amp-Support-Assistant-issue/m-p/1196938/highlight/true#M75293. His investigations revealed a mis-versioned SYS file in the Installer package as the likely culprit.
SSU scan attached.
No error bang in Device Manager. As for the user in the thread linked above, Intel Management Engine Interface is version 1914.12.0.1256 in Device Manager, but 1923.12.0.1278 in Control Panel.

ME_Win10_1923.12.0.1278.zip contains MEI driver (TeeDriverW8x64.sys) 1914.12.0.1256.
You need to wait for Intel to release new MEI driver, or try different MEI driver released by different vendor.

Really weirdly, that from Dell has installed Driver version 2013.14.0.1529 (The Control Panel program shows 2027.14.0.1683 as expected).
There's definitely something weird happening! Is there a standalone version of that SYS file anywhere at the correct version?

The installer (MEISetup.exe or SetupME.exe) and MEI driver (TeeDriverW8x64.sys or TeeDriverW10x64.sys) have different version number. So the "correct" version does not exist.

Hi MattLodder,
I think I was able to replicate the issue that you are reporting:
- IDSA installs Intel Management Engine Interface version 1914.12.0.1256
- IDSA reports ME version 1914.12.0.1256 as "Up to date"
- Windows device manager reports version 1914.12.0.1256 (Driver works with no issues)
- Download Center reports a newer ME version 1923.12.0.1278
- Manually setup of ME version 1923.12.0.1278 works as expected
- Windows device manager still reports ME version 1914.12.0.1256 (Driver works with no issues)
Feel free to correct me if I captured this report incorrectly, in the meantime, I will be working with the product team to look into this, it may be even as simple as cosmetic but allow me a couple of days and I will get back to you.
Thanks,
Ronny G

Thanks so much, Ronny.
That's correct, with the added issue that the IDSA continues to report that an update to 1923.12.0.1278 is required. All the attached screenshots are concurrent.
If you look in this section of the forum, there have been several users reporting the same issue across different systems. See posts by users dxtyh and BHarr8, for example.

@Ronny_G_Intel Just to let you know that the nag in the IDSA has gone away. Has the latest driver version been withdrawn?
The Driver is still showing the 1914.12.0.1256 version number, but at least IDSA doesn't have me stuck in a perpetual update loop. IDSA has 1914.12.0.156 as the installed version, up to date. Control Panel has the software at version 1923.12.0.1278.
Thanks.
