Intel NUC D54250WYKH won't power on

Dear all,

I was running my Intel NUC D54250WYKH (BIOS 0028), with Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS without any problems until yesterday when I tried to but the system into suspend. The system then froze and I had to turn it off manually using the power button on the NUC. Now I cannot power the unit back on. I press the power button with no success. I can see the LAN led flicker. Any idea on how to fix this issue.

Thank you.

Guys, you need to remove BIOS battery for a minute and put everything back. It helps!

Don't worry, you will not lose your warranty doing this.

Thanks to everyone who suggested disconnecting the CMOS battery ... which involves completely dis-assembling the unit to get to as it's on the underside of the board ... but it solved my bricked NUC which I'm now replying to this post on {relieved}

I won't be using Sleep from now on - just plain too much agro to physically resolve - but a good exercise for me as I was planning to get an Akasa fanless case and now feel much more confident.

NUC model: NUC5i5ryk

BIOS version: 0350 (RYBDWi35.86A)

Operating system: Korora 22

Graphics:

  • Monitor/TV model: AOC i2353Fh
  • Graphics port used (HDMI, DisplayPort): HDMI
  • Graphics converter/adapter? (Yes/No): No
  • AV receiver? If yes, model: No

Networking:

  • LAN device used (wired, wireless): Wireless (BT Hub)

Other hardware:

Haven't tried Sylvia's Secondary Power Settings, but here are mine

Hi Linuxistas,

This is one of at least fourteen threads in this forum which address Intel's 'Linux Suspend > Dead NUC' intermittent defect, dating back to August 2014.

The good news is that a workaround exists which means you can at least avoid getting your NUC bricked by this defect, and it involves using methods other than a short press on the Power button to wake a sleeping NUC – ie: wake-on-USB and/or wake-on-LAN.

For full details, see the 'Workaround Alert' above the my OP in the 'NUC5i5RYH Bricked by Ubuntu Suspend for Fifth Time' thread " /message/359708# 359708 https://communities.intel.com/message/359708# 359708

It is not possible to remove the motherboard from the NUC D54250DWKH as shown on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EPZQUaJozk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EPZQUaJozk because it has a lager aluminum case.

Please advice.
