NUC 8th BIOS update tool never works

Hello,

With my NUC 8th generation, any BIOS updates cannot be installed with the msi file, I always have to go into the BIOS and load the bio file.  I did a memtest and no errors were found.

I am trying to install the latest BIOS update and would like to fix this issue once and for all.  Any suggestions as to what to do to get the msi to load the new BIOS on the reboot it programs?

We can see on the boot that it tried to update the BIOS, fails and let Windows starts normally.

Thanks.

Hello GTA_doum,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

Based on the scenario that you are experiencing and to better assist you please provide the following report to continue.

- DXDIAG

•          Go to Start > Run or Windows Key + R.

•          On the Run prompt, type "dxdiag" then click OK.

•          On the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window, click on Save All Information.

•          Browse to a folder, type in a filename then click Save.

Use the option under the reply window to attach the report to the thread (Drag and drop here or browse files to attach).

-Could you please send us a video or some pictures of this behavior?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Hello,

Find enclosed the DXDiag information file.  For the error, it does not show any, or I did not notice it when it tries to update the BIOS on the reboot.  Does the tool saves a log somewhere when it tries to update the BIOS?

For the video, I will have to go on site, but because of the current pandemic situation, I am only going at the plant when necessary, so I do not know when will be my next visit on site.

Thanks.

Hello GTA_doum,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

To continue with our research please provide the following information:

Can you please let us know if from the moment you bought the NUC you weren’t able to update the BIOS with the .msi file?

What about the other methods have you had any issues with them or were you always able to successfully update the BIOS with another method but the one needing the .msi file?

Which methods have you successfully tested from the link down below?

I look forward to hearing from you.

I do not recall when it was new if the first BIOS update worked through the msi file, I know that it's been few years now that it does not work through that method.  Updating directly from the BIOS and telling it to read the new BIOS file from the root of C drive works every time.

Hello GTA_doum,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

Based on our research, a possibility here would be that your NUC’s chipset may have something wrong not allowing the NUC to be updated through that method; therefore, our strongest recommendation since we have tested that the BIOS .msi file is working fine with our NUC will be that, if you are within the first 30 days from the date of purchase, you can contact your place of purchase to check the warranty options for your system.

Otherwise, try contacting us directly; feel free to refer to this post once you contact Intel Customer Support.

Here is our "contact us" information:

We would recommend phone or chat support venues during your regular working hours.
