Updated BIOS to FNCML357 (latest) and now Windows will not boot: "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE"

Hi guys,

I have an NUC10i3FNH and all was working great until I updated the BIOS as a result of the automatic driver checker telling me an update was available. The BIOS files were extracted, seemingly successfully, by Windows and it restarted the computer, but I was greeted with a BSOD "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE".

When I log into the BIOS, I can see that it is indeed running the new FNCML357 version, so it has successfully installed but I cannot get the computer to boot into Windows.

Any ideas to get me back up and running please? :)

Thanks in advance!

Gareth

First, that is not your bios version. The latest is FN0041. Check in your bios to see what you have.

The latest can be found here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29631/BIOS-Update-FNCML357-?v=t

I would format a USB stick, of at least 8gb size, as fat32, and put FN0041.cap on the stick. Then, put the stick in the NUC, and boot, immediately tapping on F7, and install 0041 that way.

Once updated, boot to the bios, and tell me if you are legacy or UEFI boot, and if it sees your boot device.

Hi thanks for the quick reply, apologies for my poor understanding 😊

In the BIOS it says version FNCML357.0041.2020.0518.1045

I will get on with downloading the file...

Also it appears to be UEFI boot enabled, legacy boot disabled. But I will install via F7 like you have suggested.

No, if it is already 0041, you do not have to redo it - yet.

One of the Intel support engineers will assist you.

Thanks Doc.

Update: I managed to get into Windows by following LKWAKSMAN’s instructions towards the bottom of this thread:

No idea why the issue happened... But sounds like I’m not the only one to have a very similar problem.
