M.2 PCIe Ssd as boot with hdd as secondary

Recently I build a new desktop with ASUS Z370-f motherboard, I try to configure the bios for my Optane memory work as secondary drive for hdd, but my main m.2 ssd doesnt work. Would you mind to guide me how to set my bios to make it work?

Thank you for posting in the Intel® communities.

If your main concern is about the BIOS configuration, I recommend you to check the following guide created by ASUS* to configure the settings for the Intel® Optane™ Memory: http://dlcdnmkt.asus.com/microsite/Optane-Memory-SOP.pdf http://dlcdnmkt.asus.com/microsite/Optane-Memory-SOP.pdf

I also recommend to check the following information from your motherboard's specifications: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z370-F-GAMING/specifications/ https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z370-F-GAMING/specifications/. There are some important notes at the end:

  • The M.2_1 socket shares SATA_1 port when use M.2 SATA mode device. Adjust BIOS settings to use a SATA device.
  • The M.2_2 socket shares SATA_56 ports when use M.2 PCIE mode device in X4 mode. Adjust BIOS settings to use SATA devices.
  • Intel® Optane Technology only supported when using 7th Generation Intel® Processors. Before using Intel® Optane memory modules, ensure that you have updated your motherboard drivers and BIOS to the latest version from ASUS support website.

Based on those notes, I recommend you to check where your SATA drive is connected to, because it may be affecting the M.2 device if it's connected in the SATA ports mentioned in the notes. Additionally, if you have an 8th Generation Processor, you won't be able to setup the module. According to the note above, Intel® Optane™ Memory is only supported with 7th Generation Processors. However, this fact may prevent you from accelerating your secondary drive as this feature requires an 8th Generation Processor to work based on the information in this article: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000026040/memory-and-storage/intel-optane-memory.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000026040/memory-and-storage/intel-optane-memory.html
