Badbalock Appears in Intel® Optane ™ SSD 900P Series


Currently, server operation is performed on CentOS7, but a failure was detected and it is in trouble. It seems that only one block has failed in the SSD, but what is wrong with the hardware and what should I be aware of if I want to keep using it?

I want to somehow fix the Error Information so that it can be used again. What should I do?

  •  The SSU logs.


1- Go to (for Windows*) and to (for Linux) download the software.

2- When finished downloading it, open it.

3- Attach the file generated by the tool in your reply.


• The SMART logs extracted from your Intel® Optane™ SSD 900P Series by using the Intel® Solid State Drive Toolbox, in the “IntelSolidStateDriveToolboxUserGuide.pdf” ( section 3.2 you can find the instructions on how to get this file.


*Please take into consideration that this tool only works in Windows* and to extract this information from your SSD you may need to connect it to another system with the mentioned OS.


  • How many units are presenting the behavior described? Out of how many?


It is important to know that the Intel® Optane™ SSD 900P is a consumer product, and his usage in a server system is not supported or validated by Intel®. To avoid issues related to compatibility, please contact your motherboard OEM (original equipment manufacturer) to check if this SSD has been validated to be used under your current configuration.
