If I get SMART data from SSD (i.e. Available Spare,  Available Spare Threshold, Percentage Used, Endurance Group Critical Warning Summary,  Data Units Read, Data Units Written, Host Read Commands, Host Write Commands, Controller Busy Time, Power Cycles, Power On Hours, Unsafe Shutdowns, etc.) , how to classify health status?

Hello, @Veerapat.

Good day,

If no errors occur and the device status is healthy, you can monitor the Percentage Used, this will let you know how close the SSD is to reach its endurance limit (100%). This does not mean the drive will fail immediately, but it would be better to start looking for a replacement as soon as the value is about to reach this point.

I will also share the following link to an instructional video on how to work with the Intel MAS graphic user interface and command-line versions, just as a reference:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000057393/memory-and-storage.html

If you have other questions, please let me know, but if that is not the case, I will proceed to close the thread on February 22nd.

Best regards,

Hello, Veerapat.

Thank you for posting in the Intel Community Forum.

I received your thread regarding the SMART information and health status of your SSDs, I will be glad to assist you.

There are some SMART attributes that are considered informational and others critical, you can find more details about them in the following link:

-Intel® SSDs: Important SMART Attribute Indicators: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000055367/memory-and-storage.html

We also recommend the use of the Intel Memory and Storage Tool to monitor the status of the SSD and perform other maintenance tasks like diagnostics or firmware updates:

-Intel® Memory and Storage Tool (GUI): https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29428/Intel-Memory-and-Storage-Tool

If you have any other questions, please let me know, I will follow up on February 19th or we can schedule a different date if necessary.

Hello, BrusC_Intel

Thank you for information.

I download Intel Memory and storage tool and get this result so I have more question.

Veerapat_1-1613532515348.png

1. Estimated Life Remaining can tell Health status. Is not it ?

2. How to get or calculate Estimated Life Remaining value ?

3. From below figure, how to get threshold value of each attributes

(from https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000055367/memory-and-storage.html)

Hello, Veerapat.

Good day,

For questions 1 and 2: The life remaining is calculated based on the workload you apply to the drive, and is not accurate if the unit is under variable workloads, so it is mostly informational and not a reason for concern.

The drive health is based on the SMART attributes, if there are any attributes with problems, you will see it reflected there.

Please check page 5 of the user guide (sections 2.5 and 2.6) for more details:

- User guide: https://downloadmirror.intel.com/30161/eng/Intel_Memory_and_Storage_G-User_Interface_Guide-342468-003US.pdf

For question 3: There are no exact thresholds for these values, but they could indicate something is going on, to put it simply, if the one called "Critical Warnings" increases, that means something happened that needs your attention, and this may or may not be related to other parameters from that list, but since there are many variables involved, that is the reason why it is recommended to contact support.

If you have other questions, please let me know, otherwise, I will proceed to close the thread on February 22nd.
