I have an Optane 900P in an Asus z370 motherboard with an Intel 8700K CPU. After applying the Microsoft Patch (KB4056892) and the Intel CPU microcode update (ASUS BIOS 0606) to mitigate the security risks from Meltdown and Spectre, the CrystalDiskbench 6.0 4K random reads at Q1 dropped from 290 to 220.
I'm using the latest Intel NVME driver. This specific performance metric is the reason for the Optane purchase, and it's price premium. Does Intel feel that this will be improved with future microcode/driver/OS patches?
