Two Completely Different Drive Raid 0

Hello,

I was wondering what would happen and if it is possible to connect two different SSDs to make Raid 0. I had an Intel 750 sitting in a box and got an Intel Optane 900P 480GB PCIe and was wondering if it were possible or not good to connect these two different storage devices.

Thanks for posting.Whether it's possible to RAID your Intel® Optane™ SSD 900P and Intel® SSD 750 will depend on your system capabilities and features. Please https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/topics/oems.html contact your computer or motherboard manufacturer to confirm if the system supports RAID configurations for NVMe drives.As for the results, please bear in mind that for RAID 0, it's recommended to use drives with the same or similar capacity and of the same model as well. The RAID array will base it's capacity and performance speed on the slower and smallest capacity drive.For example, if you have an Intel® SSD 750 of 400GB and an Intel® Optane™ SSD 900P of 480GB, the RAID 0 capacity will be 400GB only, wasting the extra 80GB of the largest drive. In a similar fashion, the performance (even though increased compared to a single drive in most scenarios) will be based on the Intel® SSD 750, not taking advantage of the Intel® Optane™ SSD 900P faster speed.Depending on your needs, it might be better to use them as single drives.
