I just installed Quartus 12.1. I am running the 64 bit version. Initially I notice the quartus.exe process takes less than 1GB of ram. However after recompiling many times while making changes to the design partition settings mostly see if I could improve my compile times I noticed the memory usage going up slowly. At the end of day quartus.exe was using over 4GB of memory. When I restarted Quartus it went down ~400mb. This doesn't seem normal.

I have similar behavior (with 32b and Cyclone IV designs), with 12.1 and 13.0 (all service packs). I can also sometimes monitor in the task monitor that, after I have closed Quartus, its memory usage increase with about 1MB/sec. I have to kill the Quartus process then.
Is this only one few systems or are a lot of people seeing this? Any workaround? Regards, Thomas
