I just downloaded the handbook for the new Quartus 8.0 version. I was surprised to read that the simulator is not updated for new devices anymore.
I was expecting quite the opposite with this new major software release, a brand new simulator, may be even HDL based. What is even more suprised considering that, and actually very dissapointing, is that ModelSim Altera version is not updated neither. We are still at version 6.1g (for comparison, Xilinx offers version 6.3 now, and was already including 6.2 for quite some time)Link Copied

Altera will provide a newer version of Modelsim as part of the Quartus II v8.1 release.
The version of Modelsim Altera Edition will be derived from the Modelsim 6.3 release. Altera will rely on established and proven solutions in the HDL simulation space, rather than developing their own HDL based simulator. Moving forward, you can expect to see improvements in the integration of Modelsim and Quartus.- Mark as New
