I have used an Altera USB Blaster and a Terasic USB Blaster. The latter is available for a fraction of the price of the Altera one but looks identical and identifies itself as a USB-Blaster. Terasic develop many development cards for Altera so are very familiar with the protocols etc used. I wouldn't know about other JTAG USB controllers though.

Jetlink and similar have too much latency. You need to use a USB cable directly connected to your computer. I've only heard of Altera and Terasic USB blasters working correctly with Quartus programmer etc.
