Hello, I'm definitely a newbie, but trying to help a FW engineer load legacy code. I am trying to setup the Altra environment using the older 6.1 of NIOS and Quartus (on Windows XP), but I am running into problems. Below are the steps performed and issues, any help would be great!:
1. I can download the NIOS 6.1 portion but it it requires a 6.0 NIOS install; 2. I tried installing NIOS 6.0 and it needs Quartus 6.1 or greater; 3. I can't find Quartus 6.1, but I can find ModelSim 6.1 for download, this does not satisfy the requirement from# 2; 4. I can install the latest version of Quartus (11.x) and it includes a new version of NIOS. It does not allow me to install 6.0 or 6.1 NIOS in conjunction with this new version of Quartus. Bottom line is I need some step by step instructions for which links to download and install to achieve the original 6.1 and fully qualified development environment....Link Copied

Hi:
Someone in their infinite wisdom at Altera, decided to remove all the legacy versions of Quartus from the FTP site. So to install this you'll either need to find the original CD's for 6.1 (When they were still shipping disks) or contact Quartus support and request a download and a license key. As a consultant working for multiple customers I run into this problem often. We have gone to Virtual Machines to try to mitigate the issue but you still run into performance problems with that.
