JTAG Stratix 10 Error

Hello, I had some boards using 1SX280HU1F50E2VG manufactured. One of the boards I cannot use quartus to program this part through JTAG. The remaining boards work so I am trying to find the defect with this specific board.

Using the JTAG Chain Debugger I get the result "Error: JTAG chain problem detected Error: No device detected. Detected 1's at TDI pin."

Using an oscilloscope I am able to see activity on the TDI, TMS, and TCK pins but no activity on the TDO pin when the JTAG Chain Debugger is running. TDO pin is always high (1.8V).

I have confirmed that all 3 MSEL pins are high (1.8V). I have confirmed that all power supplies are at the correct voltage. I have confirmed that the following clock signals are present:

  • 125MHz at pin BA22
  • 125MHz at pins D24/D23
  • 125MHz at pins V9/V10
  • 125MHz at pin D28
  • 644.53125MHz at pins T9/T10
  • 644.53125MHz at pins AM12/AM13
  • 644.53125MHz at pins T41/T40
  • 644.53125MHz at pins AM37/AM38
  • 100MHz at pins J16/H16
  • 100MHz at pins BH33/BG33
  • 100MHz at pins M35/N35

What else could cause this problem?

It could be the device or TDO trace on the board. Can you check if the trace is shorted to VCC? or do a swapping with a known good device.

I have confirmed that TDO is not shorted to VCC. I suspect that the FPGA may not be soldered correctly on at least one of the JTAG pins. I am sending the board to have the device re-flowed.
