License error with ModelSim-Altera 10.0c (paid)

Hello

I have successfully installed ModelSim-Altera 10.0c in Kubuntu 64 bit.

But when i run the vsim application, the following error appears :

unable to find the license file. it appears that your license file environment variable (e.g., lm_license_file) is not set correctly.

unable to checkout a license. vsim is closing.

** fatal: invalid license environment. application closing.

I downloaded i license.dat file from altera and successfully installed it to quartus ii 32 bit version 11.1 Build 259 (sp2) with altera's license utility.

The license i have is MAC based node-locked. I have read that under Linux, only floating is supported. Should i install flexml? Is there another way to unlock ModelSim with the existing license i have.

Thank you in advance

The error message is telling you something, did you look at your environment variable? At a bash shell type:

echo $LM_LICENSE_FILE

It should be something like 1234@myserver.

fairly certain that text about fixed node licenses not being supported on Linux is conservative

in addition, a fixed node license can't be hosted with a license server

In the case of a fixed-node license, the LM_LICENSE_FILE variable should just be set to the license.dat file.

I don't remember there ever being a restriction under Linux. However, my Modelsim-SE license is served by a license server, so you might be correct.

If you get your license file regenerated for use as a single floating node, you could then run flexlm on the same machine as you run Modelsim-SE.

Thank you very much for your quick replies. Modelsim-SE license is not included with the Altera Quartus II Software v11.1. I have downloaded and installed the Modelsim-Altera Started Edition that a free edition of Modelsim.

Seeing exactly this problem with exactly this version of the tools (e.g., Quartus 11.1, and MS-Alt 10.0 under Fedora 14 Linux). Went through the on-line troubleshooter, came up dry. Have LM_LICENSE_FILE set correctly - in the license setup tool checked the LM_LICENSE_FILE box and the correct path shows up. In addition, the MAC address indicated in the "Current License" box is the MAC address on my machine (it matches the Local System Info on the bottom of the dialog box). Everything seems to be okay, but no joy. Also, I tried to file a trouble ticket to get some help with this one but my search came up dry so I couldn't file a ticket. Would love it a bunch if I could get the Linux tools up and running.

come on back
