Using SDRAM with a peripheral

Hi,

I am trying to connect SDRAM to my peripheral device directly and I read the postings on the forum which says I can use "user logic" to connect to SDRAM controller. I tried writing my user logic but its not working correctly. I am working on DE2 development board.

Has anyone implemented anything like this? if yes, please let me know how to implement it.

Thanks,

sony

Can you be a little more specific....Are you using a IP core controller without an avalon interface; or are you trying to break out the avalon bus to some off-chip controller?

Hi Daniel,

I am not very sure how to answer your question but I will try with my limited exp.

I was thinking that I can use the SDRAM Controller provided in the Quartus and write a user logic which will act as a master to the avalon bus and the SDRAM Controller will be connected to the slave and I can generate the necessary signals. Please let me know if it can work like this.

also I want to include the nios processor in the design, so basically I have nios and User Logic as master to the avalon bus and SDRAM controller is connected as slave.

Please advice

Thanks,

sony

Do you need any special license to use this or is it free and unlimited?
