QuickAssist 8970 troubles with installing driver

Hello,

I try to install QuickAssist Adapter 8970 on my server (AMD EPYC + Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS).

I downloaded the latest driver and when running "qat_service status" , devices are recognised, but when running "dmesg", it says error:

qat_dev0 started 10 acceleration engines
c6xx 0000:43:00.0: Cannot use PF with IOMMU enabled

When trying to test it via openssl, it does not recognise the card:

openssl speed -engine qatengine aes-256-cbc
QAT_HW device not available & QAT_SW not enabled. Using OpenSSL_SW!

Can you pls advise?

Thank you

Hi Daniel112233,

Either disable iommu and use PF, or enable iommu and switch to VFs.

Since you are using a system that is no based on Intel, I would recommend that you disable IOMMU and use PF.

In BIOS: Go to the BIOS menu and navigate to the IOMMU option to disable it.

In GRUB boot parameters: Append amd_iommu=off to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX /etc/default/grub. Then, run update-grub on Ubuntu.

Thanks,

Ronny G
