Since this question has been asked before, here is the best answer for you:
(From July 27th post from Guest):
What you want to do is really more than a processor change. Whenever you see a Centrino logo, means that there are at least 3 Intel products in your notebook that are validated to work together. These are, the processor, the mini-pcia wireless card, and the chipset. So the answer is no, you cannot update, since the benefits with Centrino go beyond processor speed (connectivity, longer battery life, performance etc)

Hi Guest,
Here's a brief for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_vPro# Relationships_between_Intel_vPro.2C_Intel_AMT.2C_Intel_Centrino_2.2C_and_Intel_Core_2 Ref Wikipedia
Relationships between Intel vPro, Intel AMT, Intel Centrino 2, and Intel Core 2The numerous Intel brands can be confusing. Here are the key
differences between vPro (a platform), AMT (a technology), Centrino 2
(a package of technologies), and Core 2 (a processor).
Intel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_2 Core 2 Duo or Quad processors are http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_processing_units central processing units (CPUs), the brains of the PC.[[2]|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_vPro# cite_note-vPro-4-0.2B3-0WP-1] Intel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrino_2 Centrino 2 processor technology is a package of technologies that includes the Intel Core 2 Duo.[[4]|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_vPro# cite_note-CNET_3-0.2B4-0_release-3] Intel Centrino 2 is designed for mobile PCs, such as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laptops laptops and other small devices. Core 2 and Centrino 2 use 45-nm nanotech manufacturing processes, have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-core multi-core processing, and are designed for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thread_%28computer_science%29 multithreading.
Intel vPro technology is a set of technologies built into the hardware of the laptop or desktop PC.[[2]|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_vPro# cite_note-vPro-4-0.2B3-0WP-1] The technology is targeted at businesses, not consumers. A PC with vPro includes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Active_Management_Technology Intel AMT, Intel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86_virtualization Virtualization Technology (Intel VT), Intel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Execution_Technology Trusted Execution Technology (Intel TXT), a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabit gigabit
network connection, and so on. You can have a PC with a Core 2
processor, without vPro built in. However, vPro features require a PC
with at least a Core 2 or Centrino processor. Current versions of vPro
are built into PCs with Core 2 Duo or Quad processors or Centrino 2
processors.
Intel AMT is part of the Intel Management Engine, which is built into PCs with Intel vPro technology.[[2]|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_vPro# cite_note-vPro-4-0.2B3-0WP-1]
Intel AMT is a set of remote management and security features designed
into the PC's hardware and which allow a sys-admin with AMT security
privileges to access system information and perform specific remote
operations on the PC.[[5]|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_vPro# cite_note-AMT_architecture-4] These operations include remote power up/down (via http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_on_LAN wake on LAN), remote / redirected http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebooting boot (via integrated device electronics redirect, or IDE-R), console redirection (via http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_over_LAN serial over LAN), and other remote management and security features.
Hope this answers your question.

In response to: "How do I pick a motherboard and chip the supports hardware virtualization?"
Dear Guest,
Use our http://processorfinder.intel.com/ processor finder tool first to select a processor that supports VT (Virtualization Technology). You can get a list of all the processors that are VT enabled by choosing the family of processor and then on the next page, from the scroll down list, select Intel Virtualization Technology and filter out a list of processors that are VT enabled. Then using the http://processormatch.intel.com/CompDB/ Processor & Motherboard Compatibility Tool, get a list of motherboards that support your processor.
Out of those selected motherboards, choose the most appropriate according to your needs.
This will result in a motherboard + chipset that supports hardware virtualization.
If you encounter any problems in selection or configuring a server, feel free to contact us.
Also read this blog by p-11523 K Lloyd that you may find useful.

You sent me a laptop with Vista installed, but included with the laptop were recovery disks that have XP installed. If I use the recovery disks to "upgrade" my laptop to XP, will there be a driver included for the WiMax?
Also, there seems to be a bit of flakiness when downloading a page. It looks like the page is completely downloaded, but the form is missing. A couple minutes later the full page is downloaded and useable, but the webpage itself has had no other indications that it's done. The "done" in the bottom left hand corner has been up long before it was actually completed downloading. I would put a better indicator of downloading (page updating) status in the browsers.

Dear Guest,
Centrino does not refer to the processor, rather it is a platform. When it says Centrino, it means that the system has an Intel mobile processor, an Intel mainboard chip (northbridge and southbridge), and an integrated Intel wireless networking chip.
Meanwhile T5800 processor itself is a Core2Duo processor however further clarification you will get when you go to buy the laptop in the market. The sticker on it's chassis will tell you exactly if the processor in it is CoreDuo or Core2Duo.
