Intel S2600CW EFI Shell for BIOS update

Hi,

I have a Intel S2600CW socket LGA2011-3 board that I would like to upgrade to v4 CPU's.

The spec specifies that I require newer BIOS, I have downloaded the BIOS from the Intel download center, however the guide says press F2 or F6 to access the EFI shell.

However when I press F6 I don't have an EFI shell option. I have tried in EUFI and Legacy BIOS and can't seem to access the EFI shell.

Any help would be appreciated, all guides mention the boot option in the boot list which I don't have.

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you, CMOS battery did the trick.

After that EFI shell was an option and I could update and my E5-2690 v4's are now working perfectly thank you for the help

Kind regards

Zakk

Hello zakk,

Thank you for joining the community

It is possible the EFI shell boot option has been removed from the boot menu. To confirm if this is the case, select Boot Maintenance Manager > Delete EFI Boot Option. Press the key to return to the Boot Maintenance Manager screen.

Hope this helps

Hi,

Thank you for welcoming me and for the fast response.

Sorry if I am misunderstanding, your reply was that one can remove the EFI shell boot option but the link to the documentation says it cannot be removed?

Anyhow I can't see the option anywhere and have attached photos, perhaps this can help.

From all the documentation I've read it really seems like I just don't have this option, however it should be stock standard so I am baffled?

Kind regards

Zakk

Hello zakk,

There is another option to launch EFI shell from BIOS. Look here:

https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/server-products/Intel_Xeon_Processor_Scalable_Family_BIOS_User_Guide.pdf#page=171

To restore BIOS to defaults you can try to remove the CMOS battery for 10 mins. That should get all the boot options back to normal.
