More DIMMs?

With an X58 chipset motherboard, an Intel Core i7 CPU, and interleaved triple-channel RAM, is there any advantage to filling all the DIMM slots? For example, instead of running with three 2GB DIMMs, would there be any advantage to running with six 1GB DIMMs?

I'm happy to do a ton of technical reading, so no need to write a huge tome in reply. Just point me in the right direction, please!

Most of the memory tools I'm seeing, are for the server stuff - http://imct.intel.com/ChooseBoard.aspx http://imct.intel.com/ChooseBoard.aspx

Looking at the TPS for the Intel® Workstation Board WX58BP at http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/wx58bp/sb/CS-030315.htm http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/wx58bp/sb/CS-030315.htm , both tri-channel and dual-channel give better performance than single, but that's all it seems to say.

Thanks! That seems to be about all I can find, too.

As a corollary: on a six-slot triple channel mobo, does the memory controller access two DIMMs at a time, or one at a time?

Would that be relevent to my first question?
