This might be a naive question, but I was wondering if it would be feasible to extract only the 3d pixel (points) data from the R200 data stream, and do this without having a USB 3.0 interface on the host computer.
I want to use an intel Edison to get the points data. I have a simple algorithm which uses the points data to find the nearest point in the frame. To me it seems like needing an expensive micro controller such as a Joule or Up-board is overkill for such a small computation.
I greatly appreciate the help or advice!
Thanks,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for your interest in the Intel® RealSense™ Platform.
Unfortunately, a USB 3.0 connection is necessary in order to use the R200. I would encourage you to read these threads below and see the other recommended embedded boards.
Threads:

- https://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/realsense/topic/600619 Using Intel RealSense R200 with Intel Edison
Please beware of which board you choose in terms of power, since these cameras need a lot of it.
Let us know if any questions come up, have a nice day!

Thank you Jose,
I have an up-board I can use, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't possible to interface with a smaller micro controller such as the Edison.
I am building an autonomous quadcopter, and I already have everything (IMU, optical flow camera, pwm driver) interfaced and working using the Intel Edison on a 250mm frame -- It would be amazing if I could also put the R200 on this frame and have an autonomous 250mm drone, but since it will require the up-board I will probably have to move everything to a larger quadcopter.
Thanks again for the info,
-Thomas
