I will not be able to answer all of your questions myself, but I shall attempt to address some of them.
Types of RealSense units(Long Range and Short Range)
SHORT RANGE
SR300 (1.5 m approx)
LONG RANGE
R200 (4 - 5 m approx)
ZR300 ( 3.5m indoor range and longer range outdoors)
• Development kits availability
Development kits are available on the Intel store page.
http://click.intel.com/realsense.html Intel® RealSense™ Developer Kits
• SW Development tool chain
By SW, I am guessing you mean the software development tool chain.
Intel's RealSense SDK currently supports the F200 camera (the now-unavailable predecessor of the SR300) and the SR300 camera. Active development of tools for the R200 ceased at the previous '2016 R2' SDK version, though the open-source SDK Librealsense will likely continue to support it.
The ZR300 development kit is not available until 28 February 2017, so support for it is not in the SDK yet. Intel's plans regarding SDK support will likely be announced soon.
• OS support, Support for custom Linux OS
The official RealSense SDK supports Windows 10, or Windows 8.1 for R200 (with an OS update), and Windows 10 only for the SR300.
Support for Linux and Mac OSX is provided via the Librealsense open-source SDK.

• Model Number
The model numbers listed in the Intel developer kit store are:
R200: # :VF0830 ($169.99 model - the $99 model is listed as a 'special introductory price', so may be listed on there in error)
SR300: # :06VF081000003
ZR300:# :955176
• Part Number

Unknown.

Hi guys,
MartyG, thank you very much for your excellent answer.
Mohan, we appreciate your interest in the Intel RealSense Technology, we have noticed that MartyG has replied with very helpful information, moreover, we would like to suggest you to contact http://click.intel.com/realsense.html click.Intel (mailto:%20click.support@intel.com Click Support) in order to query for a bulk-buy policy and questions related to sales, since they are in charge of the RealSense sales.
Have a nice day!
Regards,

Hello,
I must say that I am awed at MartyG's depth of knowledge and thoroughness. Yermi, thanks also for your information. I will add just a tad of clarification to some items.
OS Support
There is a RealSense SDK for Linux, available here https://github.com/IntelRealSense/realsense_sdk https://github.com/IntelRealSense/realsense_sdk, that supports just the ZR300 camera. It provides libraries for person tracking, object tracking, and SLAM.
ZR300 Part Number is 995176 which is the same model number MartyG pointed out.

Commercial Use
The development kits that are for sale on Click are meant for development purposes only. They come with a 90-day return policy. Therefore they are not recommended for commercial use or productization.
For commercial use, we recommend you purchase camera modules (they are what is inside the development kit) from Intel distributors.
Bulk Purchase
If you want to use RealSense cameras in a product and want to buy in bulk, you should purchase the camera modules at Intel distributors like Mouser or Arrow. Just about any Intel distributor can order these modules for you.
Unit pricing, mass procurement, sales
Contact your favorite Intel distributor for bulk sales of RealSense camera modules.
I hope this answers all of your questions.
Regards,
Jesus

There was a full stop on the end of the website URL for the RealSense site that stopped it from working. This should work:
