Recommendation for D415 usb extension and hub

Hi everyone,

I just start an application using multiple cameras, and it requires longer cable. I already tried using a usb-A side extension, but the bandwidth is not enough (only IR stream). The A-C cable I found listed in the following link is rather expensive ( https://www.newnex.com/usb-3-1-locking-cables.php# USB3.1LockingAtoC https://www.newnex.com/usb-3-1-locking-cables.php# USB3.1LockingAtoC ). So does anyone knows any cheaper and effective longer A-C cable?

Also any recommendations for USB hub (for up to 6 cameras sync) with enough bandwidth?

Thanks!

Newnex supply industrial-grade USB equipment and cable that is proven to work with the 400 Series cameras. They also have extender equipment for sending camera data up to 100 meters.

Another option, recommended recently by a RealSense user, is this:

Regarding hubs: Intel's multiple-camera white paper tested with this wall-socket powered AmazonBasics model:

If you need USB stability and / or are going to be running the camera for a long time (hours / days) then below is an industrial hubs that has been used for a 4-camera RealSense setup.

Thanks Marty.

The link I posted is from Newnex, but is expensive for my academic use. So I prefer to seek for a cheaper one if there is.

I've found all the links I could, listed above. Hope it helps!

On the question of 6-camera hub setups, Intel published a chart in their multiple-camera paper for estimated bandwidth use for up to 6 cameras on a hub where the cameras are synched. Left-click on the image to view it in full size.

Hi Marty,

I bought the hub in the following link as you recommended

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E6GX4BG/ref=asc_df_B00DQFGH805315309?th=1 Amazon.com: AmazonBasics 7 Port USB 3.0 Hub with 12V/3A Power Adapter: Computers & Accessories

I tested with connecting four D415, but they are running at a very low FPS (3-4). The realsense viewer keep popping up "usb scp overflow". My CPU is i7-8750H, so I think it is not the bottleneck. The bandwidth of the hub is listed as 5Gbps, which should support 4 D415 at a decent FPS from the streaming results table . So I dont know what is going on. Do you have any idea? Thanks

There have been a couple of recent cases where users were getting USB SCP errors on modern PCs. The common pattern was that the camera worked on an older USB 3.0 connection but got a lot of USB SCP errors on a USB 3.2 connection. The discussion in one of these cases is active right now, so you might like to follow that case to see if helpful information comes to light. Thanks!
