The realsense sr300 has a big tail

Hello,

I want to know why the sr300 has a big tail. Can the tail be removed?

I see a different sr300 in youtube, the tail seems like smaller, Is it a legacy version of sr300?

There have been two versions of the SR300. The original had a very similar casing to its predecessor, the F200. This is the one in the YouTube video. The second version has a rear that goes about 1 cm further back than the first version. As the USB cable goes into the back of the rear section, it would not be practical to remove it.

If you are good with electronics then the SR300 is available as a caseless 'Depth Module'. You have to purchase several parts (the main camera board and USB connector parts) and assemble it together yourself.

The SR300 Depth Module can be purchased from Intel Approved Distributor companies, such as Mouser and Rutronik:

If you choose to go the self-build route, you can also save yourself a lot of trouble with assembling the USB port components by purchasing the USB adapter board for the SR300.

Which category does the camera belong to?

I believe it would come under 'Programmable Solutions', which includes boards and kits. But I do not think it matters. For example, JD stock RealSense even though they are not ticked under Programmable Solutions on the list. I recommend visiting each site and searching for 'realsense'.
