It seems that the thermal error is false since the BIOs reports that the temperatures are at 50 degrees. The CPU fan isn't dead, and does function. The thermal sink is clean and is free of dust. The old thermal paste has been removed and a fresh paste has been applied. The BIOs is updated to the most recent version (version 383, date 10/30/2019). I have tried what has been suggested here https://www.intel.com.au/content/www/au/en/support/articles/000033327/intel-nuc.html. I did check the "Clear Event Log" box. Same error persists.
The NUC just shuts off when it goes to the Windows loading screen. If it was a heating issue, I'm assuming it would take time for the CPU to heat up and then shut down. However, it shuts off when attempting to load Windows for less than a second. After that happens, when I turn on the NUC, it displays me the "Thermal Processor Trip" error.
Any help on how to solve this issue would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Leon,
I'm not sure if I can try that. My impression is that the program can only run if Windows boots up. However, the NUC doesn't boot Windows.
Thanks,
Manu
