Workstation Board S5520SC BIOS beep code 1-3 short beeps before video turns on

When booting the Workstation Board S5520SC, there is a beep code before the video is enabled - one short beep, a short pause, then three short beeps. It seems to boot normally (this machine is new to me) and has booted into the Windows 10 Pro 1903 x64 USB stick I have successfully several times - also into a Memtest86+ USB stick twice (it's testing the RAM as I write this).

 

Both CPU sockets are populated with Xeon E5530 processors at 2.4 GHz. The RAM is 2 GB sticks DDR3-1333 ECC unbuffered (unregistered). This board supports ECC registered (buffered) and non-registered (unbuffered) RAM.

 

Is this normal behaviour? I can't find anything in the manuals or online about this specific beep code.

Hello Marc,

 

Unfortunately there is no pay for support option for any discontinued product. Intel does not offer such service. The beep codes you refer regular progress beep codes usually for chipset and memory initialization. Error beep codes  will make the system not even to boot. For more information you can check the Technical Product Specification

Thank you for the answer. I thought that it might be normal behaviour by this board, but couldn't find anything to indicate whether or not the behaviour was normal. Now I can stop worrying and continue building my "new" workstation.

 

It's regrettable that Intel doesn't support this product (which is a server board with a few tweaks to make it suitable for a workstation) any more. Dell supports their server products for much longer - even if you aren't the original owner. That latest experience will cause me to carefully consider my buying choices the next time I'm looking for a server.
