Hello there,
Here(https://software.intel.com/en-us/intel-media-server-studio/try-buy) it says 40- socket limitation on HEVC encoder.
Does IMSS 2017 Essential version have same limitation ?

Hi,
40- socket limitation on HEVC encoder is for HEVC plugin in Intel Media Sever Stdio professional edition.
Essential version can use HW HEVC codec on SKL without this limitation.
Thanks,
Zachary

So if I buy SKL it means I can use Essential with hardware HEVC encoder. OK thank you.
Also I am a little confused about following description.
"
Intel® Media Server Studio Editions available.
............
Professional - Includes Essentials edition, plus enterprise-quality HEVC and audio codecs, Intel® VTune™ Amplifier performance analysis tool, Video Quality Caliper stream quality analyzer, Premium Telecine Interlace Reverser, and more.
"
What does enterprise quality HEVC codecs means ? How different is quality from Essential edition's HEVC codecs ?

There is an article talk about HEVC Plugin in MSS professional edition,
HEVC plugin has SW HEVC codec solution, Essential edition has HW HEVC codec, usually, HW HEVC has better performance, and SW HEVC has better quality.
You can use MSDK sample_encode to do your test.
