14900K CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT Stopcode randomly several times a day.

Hello

I get this BSOD multiple times a day CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT. I have no OC on the CPU and I have XMP disabled. UEFI Bios is up to date. All devices have latest driver update and I have reinstalled the OS  just in case system file checker wasn't doing it's job properly. The device manager doesn't show any problems either.

Thank you in Advance

Hi Deivid. This week I re did all the testing. It was not the GPU, I let all configurations run for as long as I could or until they crashed. I all configurations there were crashes. 1 stick of ram and switched them around as well 2 sticks of ram, no GPU, with GPU All configurations ended in crashes. So I figured it was either the motherboard or CPU. Turns out it is the CPU that was causing the instability. Yesterday I  undervolted of my CPU and did some testing through XTU and some other synthetic benchmarks until I found a stable config. The system has been stable and crash free for the past 24 hours which has not happened before. So hopefully that was the issue. The CPU btw cannot hold any OC, It is quite a bad unit, VERY disappointing considering I purchased the specific CPU for it's supposed OC Capability. Also I cannot get XMP to work, not sure if it is related, my RAM was in the tested memories on the MSI list.

I will consider the issue resolved for now. If anything comes up I will open another ticket.

Thanks

Hello AlexSoph,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities. I can imagine how frustrating that would be. I will do my best to help you with this issue and to proceed I would appreciate it if you confirm and provide the following:

1. Is this issue recent? Or, is it present out of the box?

2. Did you notice any overheating?

3. DId you test any different components (RAM, CPU, motherboard, power supply, etc)?

4. Have you made any BIOS changes recently?

5. Run and attach the report from the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool.

6. Run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) to gather more details about the system.

Hi Deivid

Thank you for getting back to me

1. Is this issue recent? Or, is it present out of the box?

1. I built the system a few weeks ago, It was present out of the box

2. Did you notice any overheating?

2. No overheating

3. Did you test any different components (RAM, CPU, motherboard, power supply, etc)?

3. I have not, but I will take out the memory and test with one stick and so on. Everything got purchased in the last few weeks brand new.

4. Have you made any BIOS changes recently?

4.The day I built the System i did a BIOS upgrade to the latest version that was necessary for the CPU to be recognized.

I have removed the XMP OC for the memory that i enabled when I first built the system since the system was telling me that the memory OC had failed and was restarting to the BIOS on its own. ANY attempt to OC the CPU(XTU or BIOS lever) resulted in different stopcodes which I can't recall at the moment.

Hello AlexSoph,

Thanks for the confirmation. Based on the error you are getting, I recommend trying this:

1. Do you see any LED code turn on in your motherboard and the error appears?

2. Try a minimal configuration, as you mentioned (CPU, 1 stick of RAM, no GPU).

3. Check and reseat your hardware. Make sure that every piece of hardware is properly installed.

4. Undo any recent hardware or software changes, if applicable.

5. If possible, test a different CPU. Supported by the motherboard.

6. Run the sfc command in the command prompt.

  • Type Command Prompt (Admin) in the Start menu search bar, then right-click and select Run as administrator to open an elevated Command Prompt.
  • Type the following command and press Enter: DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  • Wait for the command to complete. The process can take up to 20 minutes, depending on your system's health. The process seems stuck at certain times, but wait for it to complete.
  • When the process completes, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

7. Run the CHKDSK command in the command prompt.

  • Type command prompt in your Start menu search bar, then right-click the best match and select Run as administrator. (Alternatively, press Windows Key + X, then select Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.)
  • Next, type chkdsk /r and press Enter. The command will scan your system for errors and fix any issues along the way.

Hi Deivid

Sorry for the very slow progress but work was hectic. Happy new year.!
I have done a basic configuration with 1 stick of RAM no GPU and had no issues, meaning I have tried to recreate the issue by doing all the usual activities and had no issues. Same with 2 sticks of Ram no GPU and then I added the GPU and the crashes started again. I don't get a stopcode to know if it is the same exact one but the behavior is exactly the same. So I'm guessing it has to do with the GPU.

How do I proceed?
