5960X problem "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternative driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"

Hi all,

Just built a 5960X system with Asus extreme v board. I then migrated my windows 8.1 Raid 1 to the new board using Macrium reflect

restore to different hardware - all fine except all my 5960X cores in dev manager have a yellow triangle mark - with the following message:-

A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternative driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

Have so far tried updating Intel chipset/ MEI drivers - but still the problem persists - any ideas how I can solve this driver problem?

Have looked in services msc for any Intel service not running - but can't see one - this is driving me nuts.

Any help appreciated.

Hello Mark,

Intel processors are software and drivers independent, so the processor itself does not require any driver.

In this particular case I would suggest running the Intel® Processor Identification Utility to determine if the processor is being properly recognized by the system.

Also I would suggest running the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool to determine if the processor has any issue:

I would recommend updating the BIOS on your system. If youare running the latest BIOS version available, please try reinstalling it again.

Many thanks for your response. I have now solved the problem. What happened was that I used Macrium Reflect to restore my old boards operating system and then did

a re deploy to new hardware. I think what happened in this case was that the old processors details was migrated across, and therefore stopped the correct identification of the

new processor - even though I ticked the option for windows to select the correct HAL, which I thought would have picked up the new processor, but obviously not. I had to bite

the bullet in the end and do a refresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro. Now all ok. Just wish Macrium reflect had the option in migrate to new hardware of uninstalling old drivers, but hey ho,

can't have everything I suppose.
