The answer might be negative. Please compare http://ark.intel.com/products/49024/Intel-Core-i7-740QM-Processor-6M-cache-1_73-GHz Core i7-740QM with http://ark.intel.com/products/71459/Intel-Core-i7-3630QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz?q=Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz) Core i7-3630QM, there are some differences on their specs. Besides that, Core i7-740QM is the first generation product, while Core i7-3630QM is the third generation of core i7. So you could not upgrade your i7-740QM to i7-3630QM. Never take adventure!
