An i3-9100 processor doesn't start

I have a new lga1151 board with an i3-9100 and a ddr4 memory with 4GB.
When I power on the system, with a real 500w power source, the system (cooler) starts and stop immediately. But, when I get out the processor, and only happens with the processor, the system workshop, I mean, the cooler work normaly. What maybe wrong with the processor? I tried with other motherboards and power sources....

You could try to swap out parts with a known working system.  Meaning take that processor and put it in an otherwise working computer, and make sure it still works.  Same for RAM.  Or take a known working processor + RAM + ... and put it in that motherboard.  The worry being some broken parts break other stuff (rare, but possible).

Or ask who you bought it from to swap for another part if you think you know where the issue is.

Some motherboards only work when RAM is in certain slots.  Meaning if you have 1 stick then it must be in slot ... whichever.  And if you have 2 then they must be in slot <blah> and <foo>.  Other systems are more forgiving.  Your motherboard manual should say.  Or you could just move the stick and see if it works.

Also parts might not be inserted properly.  RAM can feel in, but not really be all the way there.  It can take a lot of force, but don't break anything.  I just try to see if it's level with the board, or other sticks.  And did the teeth on the ends truly engage all the way from the pressure (should click or pop as it finishes going in).

Some systems have a set of LED's on the motherboard that can tell you what is wrong.  Or if you attach a speaker it might output beep codes.  Not to your sound card though.  There is a special header near where the LED and switches attach (power and reset).  It's a 4 pin wide connector (active wires to the outside 2 pins).  Lots of current cases don't include a speaker anymore, and without the speaker you won't hear any boot codes from it (when it can't even show you a screen of text).

I've made all this changing positions and system and power sources. By the way, what power source is needed? I used one with 500W Real.

Hello Clajner,

Thank you for posting on the Intel communities. I am sorry to hear that you are having booting issues with your Intel® Core™ i3-9100 Processor, I will be happy to help you.

To have a better understanding of the situation, please answer the following questions:

  • What troubleshooting steps have you done?
  • When did you buy the processor?
  • Does the processor have any physical damage?
  • What is the motherboard make and model, and BIOS version?
  • You mentioned you tested the processor with another working system, what is the motherboard make and model, and BIOS version?
  • Tell us the results of the steps recommended by @EternalStudent07.

@EternalStudent07 thank you for the recommendations provided.

  • What troubleshooting steps have you done?

I followed the steps:

Steps: I removed the memory and tried to turn on. I disconnected the SSD and nothing changed. When I did the test of removing the processor, and keeping the other items, the problem does not happen. The coolers start to work but obviously it doesn't go up because the processor is not there.

  • When did you buy the processor?]

Last semester

  • Does the processor have any physical damage?

No that I can see.

  • What is the motherboard make and model, and BIOS version?

The BIOS, I don't know =, but is a LGA1151 H310 from Knup (the make)

  • You mentioned you tested the processor with another working system, what is the motherboard make and model, and BIOS version?

I don't know, and I have not it anymore

Hello Clajner,

We have been investigating your issue and now we have the following questions:

  • Did you check the compatibility of the processor with the motherboard manufacturer? Since there is no compatibility information online.
  • Does the processor show any LED display?
  • Previously you mentioned that you tested the processor with another motherboard, did the system boot?

Hello Clajner,

Thank you for your response, it has been really helpful.

Please confirm the information below:

Make sure the BIOS is in the latest version. This is because sometimes the processor requires the newest versions to work properly.

Let me know if it works properly with the latest BIOS version.

Hello Clajner,

We have been working on the investigation, and there are some steps that we can follow let me know the results.

It could be a possibility that the problem is the processor, however, since it worked in another system, we will need to have into consideration that the BIOS version is supported by the motherboard where the processor is not working.

  • If possible, we can try to test another compatible processor on the motherboard that is not working.

Hello Andres, Hello all.

I did several tests using all informations I received, but the processor really doesn't work. Just only in that first mother board. This is strange. With new 2 differente motherboards no results...

The problem is that motherboard is not mine, but of a client. So I bought a new processor and I kept this one. I want still solve this question. But don't know how...

Thanks for all
