Can I keep "Intel Default Settings" disabled in my case?

Hello!

I have a Core i5 14600KF installed on a GIGABYTE B760M GAMING AC DDR5  which is already updated with the last BIOS version released some months ago (June 2025 - F20).

I could verify that the "Intel Default Settings" is enabled by default since a previous release from September 2024. This is the Link to the motherboard support page with all BIOS versions .

When playing heavy games (such as the new Battlefield 6 Open Beta), I noticed that the CPU temperature goes to  79-82º C sometimes. Also, my core i5 on cinebench 2024 scores 1130 points.

However, when disabling the "Intel Default Settings" and using the GIGABYTE default Optimized Profile,  I can undervolt my processor by -0.100v, making the temperature decrease to 69-73º when playing heavy games and the cinebench 2024 score goes up to 1344 points with everything stable.

I tried to undervolt with the "Intel Default Settings" but I can only reach -0.050v and, even with it, it doesn't have the same temperature decrease (it keeps reaching 79-82ºC).

Having my B760M Gaming AC updated to the last BIOS version (with lots of microcodes fixes) and the temperatures averages around 10º C cooler, can I keep this setting disabled?

I'm a little worried about leaving it enabled due to the temperatures increase.

Thank you in advance!

Hello renankaic,

Thank you for posting in Intel community Forum.

Let me start by saying that altering the frequency and/or voltage may void the Warranty of the processor. That is why for Intel, we only recommend the default settings:

If you are getting high temperature, you may check your processor cooler or try the steps in the link below:

Dear Michael,

Thank you for your answer.

So, when enabling the "Intel Default Settings" I get around 79-83º C when playing heavy games. I'm using a Gamemax Sigma 520 as cpu cooler, you can check its specs here in my local language.

So, is this temperature of 79-83ºC safe for this kind of scenario (heavy games with more than 160 fps) or do I have to spend more on a better cooling solution?

Also, I checked the Vcore again with "Intel Default Settings" enabled and I could see reaching 1.435v! Is this value safe too?

Sorry, I came from a processor that never passed above 1.3v even in full load, so I'm little worried with these new temperatures and values.

Hello renankaic,

Thank you for the update.

To answer your question, the Max Operating Temperature of your processor is 100 °C

Intel® Core™ i5 processor 14600KF

The temperature that you are getting while playing games is considered normal.

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Dear Michael,

Thanks for your response.

After further searching, I learned that my motherboard has the "LLC" (Load Line Calibration) set as "High/Turbo" by default, which causes this high vcore and temperatures.

I set the LLC to "Standard" alongside with the "Intel Default Settings" enabled and the temperature dropped a lot and now it's maintaing around 66-75ºC when playing games.

Thank you for all your support.

Hello renankaic,

Thank you for the update and I am glad that you found the cause of the issue.

You may also further check this with the motherboard if they have settings like this for you to run the system smoothly using normal settings.

Since your system is running normal now, I need to close this inquiry.

If you need further assistance, please post a new question as this thread will no longer be monitored.

Thank you and have a great day.
