I have been using the main processor website to check out accurate details on processors. Computer vendors use the simple ID e.g. E6300 but rarely provide capabilities. However I have come up on two different problems.
First that some processors have significant variants - e.g E5300 with virtualisation and E5300 without - meaning I cannot buy an E5300 unless the supplier guarantees that facility.
Second that for the E6300 above there are two distinct chips, one a Core 2 Duo 1.86GHz and the other a Pentium 2.8GHz sharing the number. Now they do not even have similar performance!
Now Intel changed from the old system of a part number and options to a system where it appeared that a part had a unique number. So why are the numbers not unique?
