The maximum operating temperature of the Intel® Core i7-4720HQ is 100 °C. As long as the processor is operating under this temperature, it is operating within specifications. If such temperature is exceeded, the processor will send a signal to the motherboard to shut down to prevent mayor damage and most likely it will not be possible to turn the computer back on until it cools down.

Normal operating temperatures for the processor will vary depending on the chassis, cooling solution, environmental conditions, and the load the software is placing on the processor.
