Thought the computer would recognise and use my new 2Gb card immediately.

However, computer reports 1Gb RAM capacity (also via Dos command mem)

I removed the original 1Gb card and placed a new Kingston card KVR667D25/2G

complying to the description on this site foor DDR2 and 667 Mhz.

What is it that I dont get right here?

Thanks Edwin

Hi,

The Intel® Atom™ Processor N450 (512K Cache, 1.66 GHz) is a single memory channel and if it recognize the memory and boot up, but only works with 1G(even if the memory stick is 2G) it may be a situation with the operating system or a limitation by the Original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Your system has any brand? If that is the case check with the manufacturer for the memory limitations or if there is any option to run the system with 2G of RAM.

Thanks Ricardo,

My computer is a ASUS eee pc model 1005PE.

It boots up with the new memory card.

The specs on their website confirm the option to expand mem to 2Gb:

http://www.asus.de/Eee/Eee_PC/Eee_PC_1005PE_Seashell/# specifications http://www.asus.de/Eee/Eee_PC/Eee_PC_1005PE_Seashell/# specifications

The full name of the processor is: Intel® Atom™ Pineview-M N450

The pineview M reference is new to me and havent found it yet on the Intel site

Can I use a command to find out if my system has a memory limitation?

Edwin

Hi,

The Intel® Atom Processor N450 is compatible with 2GB RAM. Please check the information on the following link:

http://ark.intel.com/products/42503/Intel-Atom-Processor-N450-%28512K-Cache-1_66-GHz%29 http://ark.intel.com/products/42503/Intel-Atom-Processor-N450-%28512K-Cache-1_66-GHz%29

Now, the model number you gave me: Intel® Atom™ Pineview-M N450 is not listed, it might be a Original equipment manufacturer (OEM) model number means specially designed for OEMs (ASUS*). Based on the link you provided me the ASUS* PC should work with 2GB RAM. If you can see the 2GB memory listed on the BIOS means the hardwarewise is working fine and the memory is compatible if you can't see the memory listed as 2 GB on the BIOS is might by a hardware issue, in either case the best option is check with ASUS* to validate the memory as compatible with the system or proceed to warranty.
