How to do the validation for PCI Express controller(Gen 5.0) in an Intel server based processor?

I wanted to perform functionality check/ validation for the PCIe bus/controller(Gen 5.0) residing in one of the Intel's server based processors in an OS level.

What are all the possible parameters that can be taken into account?
