Hello.

I have a very strange situation with Asus Rog Strix scar with I9 13980HX.

It's max performance not much bigger that old tetris.

All  because of non stoppable CPU throttling.

I have been install HwInfo for logging temperature and here is what it shown.

CPU Package temperature 10-15 degrees higher that Core Max. How can It be? And as we can see, no one core has temperature more that 82.  Laptop always cold or a little bit warm, but never hot, but CPU Package always go to 95-97 and enabling throttling =(

Hello @KuJIbka , it might be best to reach out to your laptop manufacturer as the OEMs decide the power/current limits. Any throttling happening there would be completely based on how the OEM designs the laptop. You may refer to this article for your complete reference, https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000088048/processors.html. Hope this helps.

Hello @KuJIbka , can you update us on the situation please? I've recently had something similar and couldn't figure why. I'm already having instability issues and all with my i9-13980HX and going to send it in for service next week but i'd like to know the reason for your situation, maybe i can find something related with mine. Thanks.

Hello,

I took it to a service center, and when they disassembled it, it turned out that the thermal paste had leaked. This laptop model originally used liquid metal, which is a very odd choice for a portable device. In the end, they replaced the liquid metal with regular thermal paste since I often transport the laptop from place to place (home, office, etc.), and the issue was resolved.
