Does anybody know where to get the LGA1151 pin layout? I've got a motherboard with a broken pin, and I'd like to know if this pin is used/needed.

BTW, shouldn't the LGA 1151 socket be standard, regardless the motherboard type/brand? Or some pins can be used or not depending on the implementation and the CPU model?

Hello Alekz,
In regard to your concern, the manufacturer (OEM) of the motherboard defines the function of each pin.
Even if the socket has a broken pin, the PC it will work, but in the future, there could be some features that may not run properly. Depending on the function that the broken pin had.
My recommendation is to please contact the board manufacturer (OEM) and confirm how this broken pin may affect the performance of your equipment.

Thanks Angie, I will ask ASrock. Let's see what they say.
But in this particular case I'm more interested in the i7-6700K. Is it possible to get the pinout for this CPU? For example, this particular pin can be internally connected to the ground, or power (duplicate), or unused at all.

For previous Core generations, the pinout used to be in the Datasheet, but it seems to not be there starting with Skylake (6th Gen). My guess is that the 1151 pinout is in the "6th Generation Intel® Core™ Desktop Processor Family LGA Package: Ballout Mechanical Specification", which is locked out unless you have priviliges: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/skylake/s-desktop/documentation.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/skylake/s-desktop/documentation.html

I wonder why this is confidential and requires signing an NDA.... LGA 1150, 1155, etc pinouts are publicly available on the Internet....

Who knows why it isn't available.
I, like you, used the pinouts for the previous Core generations to understand what a bent pin in the socket was controlling

Gize2, thanks for your help.
Hello Alekz,
About the pinout information; these details, if you ask directly to the company they will be considered as private information according to some policies.
The fact that you are able to find the information on the internet, does not mean that it is always confident.
Also, my recommendation to contact http://www.asrock.com/support/ ASRock Support; was due that you have mentioned that the broken pin was on your motherboard and they are the manufacturer (OEM), so they will provide you with accurate information for your board.
For further concerns, do not hesitate to reply back.
Regards,
Angie
