Hi
When Intel stop supporting a processor, does that put a laptop/desktop at a security risk?

How long is support given?

Hello Lippy,

Thank you for posting in Intel community Forum.

For me to further check this, please help provide the following details:

  1. What is the model of your processor?
  2. Are you having issues with your processor?
  3. If Yes, can you further explain the issue that you encounter?
  4. What kind security risk are you referring? Please help elaborate.

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hi Michael
Thank you for your reply.

I'm in the process of buying a new laptop. I'm looking at Ultra 5 or 7 series 1.

Due to the price I may need to buy one with an older processor so want to know how long intel do updates as I don't want to buy an older one only to find out in 12 months time updates stop.

When updates do stop does that put a laptop at a security risk or does anti virus software protect it?

Thank you
Lippy

Hello Lippy,

Thank you for the update.

For processor, it will take a lot of time before it reach End of Interactive Support life or EOIS.

Let me share this link and let's use the 7th Gen processor as an example. It was released way back in 2017 and it was announced as EOIS just last year 2024.

Thank you for the update.

And I am glad that I was able to answer your question and you got a new processor.

Since we have a new processor now, I need to close this inquiry.

If you need further assistance, please post a new question as this thread will no longer be monitored.

Thank you and have a great day.
