I HATE OVERCLOCKING AND ALWAYS RUN ALL THE COMPUTER PARTS AT THEIR STOCK VOLTAGE. However, in spite of all this I am getting the message that my machine is "OVERCLOCKED". I have also attached the image for your kind consideration. Please help me ASAP.

I would suggest installing the latest BIOS version for your motherboard, and enabling the Enhance Intel SpeedStep® Technology on the BIOS of the motherboard, usually the option in the BIOS is called "EIST" but you need to check with the motherboard manufacturer if you cannot find it.

Remember that since this processor supports Intel Turbo Boots technology, if the processor is under stress, it will automatically activate this feature increasing the processor speed; this feature is used by the operating system and any running application when they determine that the processor needs to go above its stock speed.

However, if you believe there is an issue with the processor you can also run the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool:

Dear Adolfo,

Thank you for your reply. I installed the latest BIOS version 5599 and ran the test again. Please take note that I always run this test when the processor is in its IDLE STATE AND AT STOCK SETTINGS. However, I am still continuing to receive "OVERCLOCKED" readings at the conclusion of the test. I have also tried by going in the BIOS setup and "LOADED OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS" but to no avail. Kindly help me. Thank you.

Try running the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool located to see if it reports any issue, you can download it at:

http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm

It will be a good idea to test the processor on another motherboard to see if it causes the exact same behavior.

If you do not have a spare motherboard, perhaps you can test it on a friend's motherboard or by taking it to a local computer store.

If the processor does not causes the same behavior on a 2nd motherboard, then performing a clean installation of the operating system will be a good idea.

The last option is to test the processor on another motherboard as suggested on the previous reply.

If you cannot do that, and you feel that the processor is somehow defective, then please proceed to contact the Intel local support center at the following website, so they can assist you with any warranty option:

Or you can also open a chat session at:

Dear Adolfo,

Thank you for your reply. I have contacted the Intel local support center in my country and after validating the details, they have said that the product is "OUT OF WARRANTY". I am sorry I have misplaced my proof of purchase. They have refused to help me until and unless I provide them with the proof of purchase. Kindly guide me. Thank you.

Unfortunately, without an invoice, they cannot replace your processor.

And since you have tried all other recommendations, I would suggest contacting the place of purchase to see if they can provide you a copy of the invoice.

Dear Adolfo,

Thank you for your reply. Actually, the place in New Delhi from where I purchased it has been shut down and they no longer have an office down there. Anyways, thank you for trying to help me out.

Dear Adolfo,

My processor is in perfect working condition. The only issue is that it is operating at a frequency of 2.83 GHz instead of 2.66 GHz. Please kindly help me. I will be highly obliged.

I have already suggested all the possible troubleshooting steps as follow:

  1. Disable Enhance Intel SpeedStep® Technology
  2. Try a clean installation of the operating system.
  3. Tested the processor on another motherboard to determine if it causes the same behavior.

If none of that solve the issue, you will need to either live with that, or purchase a new processor, since it seems that you cannot find the invoice of the original processor.

Dear Adolfo,

Thank you for your reply. It is highly appreciated. I guess that limits my options and I will have to continue using the same processor until it gets spoiled due to overheating and operating at a frequency higher than the factory settings.
