Question about i5 13600KF temperatures

Hello everyone,

I purchased a i5 13600KF with the following parts:
MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk
PNY DDR5 2x16GB 6000 MAKO RGB
Corsair RM1000x
EVGA RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra

I built my custom PC and wanted to know if my processor temperatures are normal. I never really worried about it until now because after some research i seen other people getting better temperatures when using Cinebench R23, prime95 and other softwares with similar cooling solutions, even when overclocked.

I had 2 different cooling solutions for my processor. The first one was a MSI MAG CORELIQUID 360R V2 which is a watercooler.

The cooling i got now is a custom waterloop with a 360mm distroplate with integrated pump + 1x 360mm copper radiator and a IceManCooler CPU block which is made from POM/Nickel. It ended up giving similar results. With stock i was getting high temperatures when testing, even after undervolting. The processor reaches ~76C when using Cinebench R23 at 1.204v at ~165W. prime95 small fft uses around ~190W at 88C which does not sound normal to me without even overclocking it. I did not even bother trying because of the temperatures. I am lost of ideas,

i tried the following things:
Try different AIO’s
Test different pump speeds
Reseating CPU BLOCK
Flush custom loop and refill it
Replace thermal paste, also tried using different ones like TFX, TF8, Arctic MX-4
Reseat contact frame for CPU (thermalright)
Clear CMOS

None of this help unfortunately, my only thought would be that the contact between die CPU die and IHS isn’t great but i can’t guarantee that.

I am hoping that someone could help me figure this out.

Hi Jason0709,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

We know that one can get worried with the temperature that is lower compared to other with the same configuration. We will see what is happening.

Please allow us to ask the following information, so we can provide you a more accurate answer:

1. It would really help us if we can get more information about your system. Please download and run our Intel® System Support Utility from this page. To run it, please press "Scan". After the scan is finished, click next and there will be a save button, giving you an option to save the logs to a text file, please do so and attach the file on your reply. You can refer to How to get the Intel® System Support Utility Logs on Windows* for instructions.

2. Do you have links of the research that you have found that led you to believe that you are getting abnormal temperatures?

We look forward to your response.

Hello,

I was able to get on my computer and did what you asked me to do. You can find the SSU details below.

I can't really awnser the other question because i did not save the links but the posts were from reddit. My intention was to overclock this processor to get everything out of it but at stock settings it was already overheating at 90C+ during prime95 small FFT AVX test. Most motherboards overvolt the processor at default settings so the first thing i did was undervolt it and use stability tests until it was stable.

What concerned me is that the processor even runs hot while undervolted, i am using a custom loop which should be far better from a air or AIO cooler. During prime95 small FFT AVX it was getting up to 82C at 190w power draw and 1.144v. On reddit i have seen people getting better temps compaired to me with just a air or AIO cooler, even after overclocking.

I already tried the following things but did not help:

Change fan and pump speed profile

Reseating the cooler

re-apply thermalpaste

Checked for dirt in custom loop and flushed it before refilling

Update Bios

CMOS reset

Hi Jason,

Thank you for providing the information that we had asked.

After checking the temperatures that you have provided, they seem to be normal. If you say you are getting 88C on 190W, then 190W is above the Maximum Turbo Power already of the CPU, which is 181W. Maximum Turbo Power is used to achieve the Maximum Turbo Frequency of the CPU which is 5.1 Ghz and yet even at 190W, your CPU is only running at 88 degrees Celsius. We know that you are comparing your results to what others have achieved; however, there are a lot of natural factors why not all CPUs can perform the same, such as ambient temperature, motherboard build, silicon of CPU, etc.

You can try to update the BIOS of your board to the 7D91vHC2(Beta version) bios version, which contains Intel default settings. Please consult MSI on how to load this profile.  Once loaded, you can then fine tune your system from this base profile which has Intel defaults, so you will be sure that the processor is running as intended from our factories.

Additionally, please also run Intel Xtreme Tuning Utility that can be downloaded from this page. Kindly run a stress test and check what is maximum frequency that you are getting and the temperature.

We will diligently wait for your reply post.

Hello,

I totally agree that CPU silicon is a big factor since every CPU is made differently and also ambient temperature plays a role etc..

I remember that i tried the Beta version of the motherboard before posting this but ended up downgrading to the latest stable BIOS because i was experiencing black screens after saving bios settings. So maybe it would be better to wait until a official release comes out, i'm already happy that i managed to get a stable undervolt and it helped a lot. Which softwares would you recommend to test CPU stability ? I did some research about prime95 and i have been told that this software really pushes the components way too much (in a unrealistic way). I have heard of OCCT or Aida64 but i am not quite sure if these softwares would be good enough to test stability for undervolting or overclocking etc.

Best Regards,

Jason

Hi Jason0709,

We appreciate your prompt reply and your consideration on the answers that we had provided.

Regarding your question on what software can you use to test your system’s stability, as much as we would like to help you, Intel doesn't endorse or recommend any particular tool, software, or website. You may look at the list available on this page which is also applicable for processors. There are software listed there that can do stability test on their description. For use and support of any third-party applications, kindly contact their respective software support.
