Hello! I have a strange situation with my i9 14900k processor, installed on a Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX W motherboard and cooled with ID-Cooling FROZN A720, on air, when I work in Cinema 4D and open the Interactive Render window in VRay, the fans start to spin up hard producing a lot of noise, and it is difficult to work! The fan speed is high as long as the Interactive Render window is open! To avoid this situation I made this limitation in the motherboard BIOS! Do you think these settings can cause some problems in the future that affect the functionality of the processor?

Hi NicuDB,
Thank you for posting in our community. Allow me to investigate further and check the BIOS settings you applied. It seems your i9 14900k processor is generating a lot of heat when using Cinema 4D and VRay’s Interactive Render, causing the fans to spin up and produce a lot of noise.
This is likely due to high iGPU and CPU usage during rendering, which increases the system’s temperature and triggers the fans to cool it down.
By limiting the fan speed in the BIOS, you might reduce the noise, but this could lead to higher temperatures, potentially affecting the longevity and performance of your processor and other components. The processor’s base power is 125W and exceeding this can void the warranty.
To isolate the issue, please answer the following questions:
- Has this happened before, or is this the first occurrence?
- Have you tried updating the BIOS to the latest version? If yes, what were your observations?
- Have you tried loading default settings in the BIOS and checking the noise issue during rendering?
- Can you provide an SSU log report so I can have an overview of the system specifications and configuration?
Please note, before configuring the BIOS, you may want to consider contacting the motherboard manufacturer. They may have suggestions and advice on settings tailored to your system setup
Thank you for your cooperation. Looking forward to your response.
Best,
Randy T.

Thank you for your help!
To answer the questions:
1. The system is new, recently assembled.
2. The BIOS is updated to the latest version since assembly.
3. Yes, with the default settings of this motherboard these are the manifestations, that is, I worked with the two Intel Extreme and Performance profiles, offered by Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX W.
4. Attached.
I want to mention that with both profiles used, the fans spin constantly, and the temperatures quickly reach 85-90!
The processor power is constantly at 253W, that is, Maximum Turbo Power!
If I manually change the Turbo Power Limit: PL1 125-180W and PL2 253W, the fans have a bust for a few seconds then stabilize and work silently, performance drops a lot, true, but you can work in peace!
That's what I'm asking, if the manufacturer Gigabyte sets the maximum power in their basic profiles to 253W (probably to achieve maximum performance) if I limit it to 125-180W how can this affect the functionality of the processor in the long term?
Basically, Gigabyte still does not protect these processors enough, even if they offer these profiles, they are set to the maximum speed supported by the processor, 253W, to achieve better performance!
Intel probably knows this too!

Hi NicuDB,
Maximum Turbo Power is configurable by system vendor and can be system specific. This is only my personal point of view, reducing power limits helps with thermal management and fan noise but impacts performance. It’s a trade-off between performance and longevity. Motherboard manufacturers profiles are designed to push the processor to its limits for maximum and better performance. While this is within the processor’s capabilities, it may not be ideal for long-term use due to increased heat and power consumption.
I'll look into this issue and coordinate with our team to find the root cause. I'll keep you updated as soon as we have more information. Thank you for your patience.

I don't have high hopes that someone will take care of this situation! You have more important things to do, but I still think it's a problem with the wonderful i9 14900k processor, which is not able to handle a preview window of a rendering engine! Such a situation does not occur with AMD!
Anyway, thanks for your time!

Hi NicuDB,
Based on our review, it appears that this is a thermal/overheating issue with the processor. We recommend following the steps outlined in this article for isolation purposes. Additionally, you can verify if the processor is functioning correctly by running the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool (IPDT).
If the issue persists, even if the IPDT does not detect any faults, there may be a possibility that the processor is faulty and may need a replacement. In this case, you might also want to consult your motherboard's OEM for the correct profile settings.
Please let me know how I can further assist you with this.
Best,

Thanks for the answer, and for your time! I ran IPDT and everything is ok!
Now, the rest of the solutions are relatively difficult to implement or are within parameters, the thermal paste was applied correctly
in a thin layer over the entire surface of the processor, it is difficult to open the cooler to see what the situation is!
I don't think the processor is defective, the system froze once, and I had crashes in some programs, but they were solved
after I returned to the default settings in the BIOS, I probably checked something extra that didn't suit it and that's why it's crashing!
I'm trying to get used to it like this, as a temporary solution I returned to the manual settings for Turbo Power Limit (PL1 125W and PL2 253W) in the future I will consider purchasing an ID Cooling A620 PRO SE, which I understand is quieter than what I have now!
If that doesn't solve the problem, the solution is Ryzen :))
Greetings and I hope I don't have to come back to this forum with problems!

Hi NicuDB,
Thank you for your feedback and for running the IPDT. I'm glad to hear everything is okay. I understand the challenges with the solutions, and it's great that reverting to default BIOS settings helped.
Your plan to consider a quieter cooling solution sounds promising. If you have any more questions or need assistance in the future, feel free to reach out.
Wishing you smooth computing ahead!
