Voltage 14900hx

Hello everyone,

I've got a brand new Laptop for work, with a i9 14900HX. I've got a lot of spik on every cores (VID) above 1.56 V and also some above 1.610V

Is that normal ? It happens also when I'm looking tutorials on youtube,  or when i'm in "silent mode" on little tasks. I don't play games, but  I do a lot of video editing (4k) and photogrammetry for work (so I need a big cpu).

I know nothing (John Snow) about undervolt and don't want to mess with something.

So is it normal ? Thanks a lot and good day to you !

Hello Duael,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

To get a better understanding of the issue and be able to provide an effective recommendation, please provide the missing key information here:

1) What application(s) are running when you experience core voltage spiking?

2) I would highly appreciate you sharing your system configuration so we can fully check and provide you with an accurate fix. This could be possible by downloading the Intel® System Support Utility for Windows* software. When the download is complete, launch SSU.exe.

  1. Scan: Check the box Everything.
  2. Click Scan.
  3. Review: When finished scanning, click Next.
  4. Click Save (.txt)

 3) Additionally, kindly download and scan your system using the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool, and share a screenshot of the results and its log file (.txt). This is to ensure that your processor is in good health.

I will wait for your reply.

Best regards,

Hello Jeannet

Thanks for your answer.

1- It's happen on little task, like browsing on the internet, or just on iddle, doing mails, or watching a video on youtbe, also without any opened applications, except Hwinfo .A few days ago it shown 1.649v on Hwmonitor .

Today , on HwINFO64, more accurate software, vids reaches 1.603 v. It happens after closing all the test you asked. Not during those test.

During stress test or heavy tasks (video editing), Vids are often upper than 1.45v and sometimes above 1.55v but i'm not always checking during work.

It's VIDS specs and not vcore, my motherboard didn't have sensor for that, but it's big voltage's request.

2 and 3, it's on the attached files. I've run the firt test (IPDT) in quiet, balanced and performance mode.

I've attached the screenshoot of today's 1.603, reach after the test, and doing juste this post with few internet's browsers opened.
Thanks a lot for your advice because, it's my working computer, and I can't afford a new one.
Have a great day

Hello Duael,

Since my colleague is currently away, I will be handling this thread for now. To provide you with concrete information, I would like to share this link to the 13th Generation Intel® Core™ and Intel® Core™ 14th Generation Processors Datasheet, Volume 1 of 2. You can refer to page 186 to see the maximum voltage of your processor. Therefore, the maximum voltage you are currently seeing is still within normal parameters. Additionally, you can check this article for more information: “Why Is the Processor Drawing More Voltage Than Expected?

I would also like to ask for some clarification. When you are performing tasks, does your system overheat or slow down, or are you primarily concerned about the high voltage your processor is experiencing?

Please let me know about this, I am looking forward hearing from you.

Best regards,

Hello @JeanetteC_Intel

Sorry for my late !!!

Sometimes, yes, the ram (64gb) is at 99.9% for no reason during a programm with no heavy tasks asked where other people with the same laptop  and somes heavy tasks arn't struggling.

It can thermothrottle or laggy with just a programm open and an in internet browser. Lightroom can be very slow...

Today, 1.610V has been asked in core vids.
