Where is the processor feature comparison info ?

I'm trying to find info about how to determine which processor(s) to use for different applications. So far I have found technical documentation but only in general terms about the technologies. The comparison charts are likewise general in scope. The literature I would like should answer why would I choose an i7-870 rather than i7-940 or i3-530.

On the Intel wensotes, http://ark.intel.com/ is your best bet, from there you can get to asll the datasheets as well. Otherwise, third party websites like http://www.cpu-world.com/ might help
