core i7 -13700k thermal throttling

hi

lately i have noticed that my cpu gets real high while gaming or doing a little demanding task(like having 60 percent cpu usage) when i tried to get a benchmark of my cpu(i used at first cpu-z and then cinebench) I encountered a problem with thermal throttling, reaching up to 40%. The CPU package reaches 100°C, causing the processor to reduce core frequencies to 4.9 GHz

my cpu is intel core i7-13700k and my cooling system is deepcool ls720 360mm aio

I would appreciate any guidance on my problem, as well as possible troubleshooting methods.

HI, K246.

Thank you for posting in our Community and for clearly outlining the behavior you're experiencing with your Intel® Core™ i7-13700K. Based on your description, it’s evident that your processor is reaching thermal limits under load, triggering thermal throttling and downclocking to maintain safe operating temperatures. While the 13700K is a high-performance CPU, sustained temperatures hitting 100°C despite being cooled by a 360mm AIO like the DeepCool LS720. Thermal throttling at 100°C is by design to protect the silicon. However, under moderate workloads (e.g., 60% usage), it should not be reaching these thresholds unless cooling or power configuration is misaligned.

Are PL1, PL2, and Tau values configured manually or set to "Unlimited" in BIOS? (Some motherboards override Intel's recommended power limits, causing excessive heat). Are you experiencing thermal throttling in real-world use, or only in synthetic benchmarks like Cinebench? (Determines if the throttling is sustained or only under burst workloads).

If you've already taken any steps to resolve this issue before reaching out, please share those details with me so I can avoid repeating any unnecessary actions.

Have a nice day!
