i5-2430M Operating temperature

Hey,

I was wondering how hot my CPU should be operating. on idle it is usually around 55-60 degrees Celsius with the max processor usage at 100 percent. When I'm using mid-level intensity games, the temperature could spike up from anywhere Between 60-87 Celsius with the maximum processor usage set to 95%, so the turbo boost does not create more heat. The fans however hardly appear to be at full RPM, so the computer runs relatively hot and too hot for my liking sometimes. I was wondering if this is normal for this particular CPU and ways I can reduce the heat, other than getting a cooling fan, etc. The temp will fall very quickly back to operating temperature in a matter of ten or so seconds.

Hello Venom,

Note that the normal temperature of a processor should be around 40-60 degrees. When there are internal services running in the back of the operating system, the processor temperature can increase or decrease when it stops.

I recommend you running our Intel® Processor Diagnostics Tool so you can test the internal processor components and generate a report of the processor. You can run the application by accessing at the following link:

Another good step is to clean up the fan from dust and dirty so it can spin correctly and cool the processor down.
